Saddlebred Museum Opens Red Mile Exhibit

Details
Category: News & Events
Published: April 23, 2018

The American Saddlebred Museum recently announced that its 2018 exhibit Red Mile Reminisces: A Look Back at the Lexington Junior League Horse Show will showcase the memories made during the 81 years the show called the historic Red Mile Racetrack its home.

With the 2018 relocation of the Lexington Junior League Horse Show to the Kentucky Horse Park, it seems fitting to look back at the history of this special show. The Lexington Junior League Horse Show is not only the first leg of the Triple Crown of Saddlebred horse shows, but also the largest of all outdoor shows for American Saddlebreds. Plans call for the exhibit to open in early July and run through the end of the year.

The museum is asking for loans and/or donations of items relating to the history that was made at the show. Historic trophies, ribbons, photos, ephemera and memorabilia from the early years of the Lexington Junior League Horse Show are needed; specifically older, retired challenge trophies and any unusual photos of horses showing in the famous Red Mile mud. The items need to be at the Museum in early May. If you have significant items to loan or donate, please contact Kim Skipton at Kim@asbmuseum.org or 859-259-2746, ext. 312.
