Construction has begun at The American Saddlebred Museum

After two years of planning, phase one of the renovation at The American Saddlebred Museum is underway. Architect Christopher Quirk, with Solid Light has designed the space and Solid Light exhibit designers have created updated exhibitions. This is the second renovation since the Museum opened at the Kentucky Horse Park in 1986.

The first phase of the project is to update the visitor entrance, reconfigure changing gallery exhibition space and expand the retail gift shop. The renovation includes an addition of a full catering kitchen and new outside deck/event space that will allow for expanded entertaining activities.

“This is such an exciting time for the Museum," said American Saddlebred Museum Executive Director Jennifer Foster. "Our entire Museum team has been working on this plan; we are so pleased to see the changes as the construction crew has started. We look forward to having a ‘re-envisioned’ Museum to support our mission and vision and to better serve our audience.”

Phase one is projected to be completed by July, in time for the Junior League of Lexington Charity Horse Show. Phase two, renovation of the history wing, will begin fall 2018 and includes a wrap-around theater, and more interactive exhibits to tell the story of the horse America made. The Museum will remain open during construction. Phase two is scheduled to be completed fall 2019.

The mission of the American Saddlebred Museum is to preserve the traditions and promote the heritage of these beautiful athletic horses, through active engagement of the general public and equine community by expanding interest and appeal in the Saddlebred breed.
