Midwest Charity Horse Show announces judges for 2017

Midwest Charity Horse Show’s 76th annual show, June 13-17, 2017, includes distinguished panel of judges: Michael Craghead, Fresno, Calif.; Sandra Currier, Bellville, Texas; and Nancy Troutman, Salem, Va. Michael Grimm, Kansas City, Mo. will judge Arabians.

Midwest’s 2017 edition will be held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Covered Arena due to the closure of the Coliseum. Additional warm-up rings have been added, including the Livestock Center for the ease of our barns stabled at the far end of the horse complex. The Illinois Department of Agriculture has transformed the Food-O-Rama into a covered warm-up ring adjacent to the Coliseum and of course Barns 13 and 14 are still available.

Exhibitors will enjoy seeing their favorite vendors around the horse complex, featuring food, show supplies, clothing and accessories, fine jewelry and artwork. Vendors who were in the Coliseum will relocate to the front of Barn 14, directly across from the Covered Arena and to other nearby locations within the horse complex.

Midwest’s class committee has added three new classes to the Half Arabian division including Half Arabian Country English Pleasure, Open, Amateur and Championship. As always Midwest offers a full complement of classes for the American Saddlebred, Hackney Pony, Morgan, Roadster, Equitation, Arabian and Half Arabian exhibitors.

Midwest Charity Horse Show Association donated $10,000 to the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s Camp COCO from proceeds of its 2016 multi-breed show. Corporate sponsor Steak ‘N Shake and many long-time generous supporters enabled us to continue to donate to the Springfield community, we are grateful for their support. Since its inception, the Midwest Charity Horse Show, an all volunteer, non-subsidized organization, has donated its annual proceeds to a Springfield area charity and has selected Camp COCO as the beneficiary since 1988, creating an endowment fund, with a cumulative donation totaling more than $210,797.

As tradition dictates, the Midwest Charity Horse Show will delight and entertain exhibitors with their legendary nightly parties after the last class in barn 25Q, the famous “Party Barn.”
