Saddlebred World Loses Olen Wilford
Olen Madison Wilford died on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the age of 83.
Olen was born in Doctors Inlets, Florida,a small community outside of Jacksonville. He attended elementary school in Doctors Inlet and graduated from Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, FL. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 1951.
His career interests were developed during his service in the Navy. He had degrees and certifications in the fields of physical therapy and teaching, and taught special education for the physically handicapped until his retirement in 1989.
His interests and hobbies covered a wide range. His love for country and gospel music spanned a life time. as Along with music, he also had a passion for animals.He bred and exhibited American Short Haired Classic Silver Tabby cats and studied and became an all breed judge for (CFA), Cat Fanciers of America.He loved Doberman Pinchers and the American Saddlebred horses which he owned, showed and bred.
He met and married Linda Dake in 1986. They settled in Rancho Santa Fe, California, living there until Olen’s recent passing. Olen always spoke of Linda as his love and his brick! Over the years Olen and his wife lived active lives and traveled extensively In his own words, “I have had a blessed life and a long life”. Olen’s cremains will be laid to rest in a small private cemetery in the community where he was born … Doctors Inlet, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife,,pets, his beloved sister and many nieces and nephews and friends.
He has asked that in lieu of flowers a donation in his memory be made to a charity of your choosing.
