The American Royal Association is proud to announce the creation of a new $1,500 Junior Exhibitor Scholarship at the UPHA/American Royal National Championship Horse Show. This scholarship will be awarded to a junior exhibitor (showing as 17 years old and under) who is entered to compete in the show in 2011. In addition to being entered in the show, junior exhibitors must apply to be eligible. Applications must include one letter of recommendation and a one-page essay written by the applicant on what their participation in the UPHA/American Royal means to them. Applications and contact information should be postmarked no later than November 1st, 2011 to Stacy Maher at the American Royal: 1701 American Royal Court, Kansas City, MO 64102 or StacyM@americanroyal.com

The purpose of this scholarship is to aid our horse industry’s junior exhibitors in furthering their education and rewarding them for their excellence and dedication to agriculture through equestrian sports, as well as to develop leadership in our youth. The scholarship funds are to be used towards funding post-secondary education. The winner of the scholarship will be notified no later than November 15th, 2011 and will be recognized in center ring at the UPHA/American Royal National Championship Horse Show during November 15th-19th 2011.

The American Royal Association is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899. Each year during the months of September, October and November, more than a quarter-million people attend the American Royal. In 2010, the Royal was able to give $1.7 million in scholarship and educational awards. In addition to its educational mission, the American Royal generates some $70 million of economic impact, $4.4 million in local tax revenues, and supports 450 jobs.
