Saddlebred world loses Mary Jane Pidgeon Sledge

Mary Jane Pidgeon Sledge passed away Christmas Day after years of enduring the complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Her death marks the end of an era: understated elegance and selfless determination seamlessly blended into a feisty wit and undying devotion to her family, church and community. She was a genuine steel magnolia with the deepest of roots and far reaching influence that will affect many for decades to come.

Biggins Stable offers Adult Riding Camp

Openings are still available for the 2014 Biggins Stable’s Adult Winter Riding Camp. The camp will be held March 7-9  at the farm in Simpsonville, Kentucky (near Louisville).  The annual riding camp is known for its quality instruction and fun atmosphere.  The camp attracts adult saddle seat riders of all skill levels and from all parts of the country.

UPHA Chapter 5 Judges Announced

Building on a great event in 2013, the UPHA Chapter 5 Horse Show will feature a three-judge panel for its May 7-10, 2014 show dates. James Nichols will judge the Saddlebred, Pony, and Equitation divisions. Tré Lee will preside over the Saddlebred and Equitation classes, and Tim Roesink will join as the Morgan judge, completing the panel for Saddlebreds and Equitation as well.

Judge announced for JD Massey 2014

The JD Massey Classic Horse Show Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Randy Cates has agreed to judge its 2014 edition, April 16-19. The show will once again begin with an evening session on Wednesday the 16th. The JD Massey Classic Horse Show is complete with morning and evening sessions featuring American Saddlebreds, Friesians, Hackneys and Roadsters.

Adult Riding Camp to be held at Equitate, LLC

Adult riders, come to Equitate, LLC in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, for the Saddle Seat Adult Riding Camp Jan. 31 — Feb. 2, 2014 for a well-rounded weekend of expert instruction and an enjoyable time for all! Sheri Brandl, Mark Bodnar and Jay Wood will be instructing. This is a great chance to get some solid riding time in with the instruction and training of three different trainers and share in many discussions with other adult riders.

Saddle Seat World Cup Team Chosen After Selection Trials at William Woods University

After impressive showings at the Saddle Seat World Cup Team Trials, 12 riders were chosen to represent the United States at the 2014 Saddle Seat World Cup. Thirty-two aspiring athletes, twenty in three-gaited competition and twelve in five-gaited, from twenty-six states tried-out at William Woods University on Saturday. They rode two  phases in a chilly but snow and ice free atmosphere.

Blowing Rock Horse Show announces new manager

The show committee for the Blowing Rock Horse Show is pleased to announce that Joyce Wilson of Zebulon, N.C. will be the manager for 91st show scheduled June 5 – June 8, 2014.  We are excited to join with Joyce to continue the long tradition of fun and quality competition.

2013 UPHA Horse/Pony of the Year Voting is Open

All 2013 UPHA Horse of the Year voting will be done online and UPHA Active members only may vote. Voting ends on November 27, 2013.
